The Shapiro Foundation Director Larry Tobin has seen it happen countless times before: All it takes is the hiring of that first immigrant or refugee to open up the floodgates for more.

As business owners fall in love with the skill set, dependability and loyalty of their new employee, that trust begins to form. And as that trust grows, refugees typically spread the word locally and back home overseas that this is a viable place to build a safe and stable future.

“Folks form communities with their own,” says Larry, whose foundation partners with Joblio to serve and resettle refugees, “so they’ll go back to the Ukrainian church and bar and bring in the best talent that you haven’t met yet.”

There is great potential for the labor mobility of refugees because people around the world possess the education and/or skills employers seek, but the problem is that companies are currently struggling to find them due to a worldwide imbalance in the labor force.

The solution is to move these skilled workers from one place to another, which creates a win-win situation for both the country of origin and the country where those refugees arrive.

“We don’t have the right skills in the right place at the right time,” says David Arkless, former president at recruitment powerhouse ManpowerGroup and current non-executive chairman of Joblio’s advisory board. “There is a huge opportunity to use people that are currently displaced or disadvantaged, but have been amazingly trained and have fantastic skills, and move them to where the work is.”

Here’s how Joblio’s ability to access global networks and its commitment to fair labor practices are beneficial for all countries involved:

Destination country benefits

  • Economic boost. Due to increased tax revenues and optimized labor processes, plus the potential for new businesses.
  • Cultural diversity. Through Joblio’s effective human capital management solutions, the welcoming of diverse individuals improves standards of ESG (environmental, social and governance) and DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion).
  • Improved transparency. Joblio’s model creates a centralized tracking system of work-related migration.

Origination country benefits

  • No middlemen. Joblio eliminates the need for all employment agents or labor brokers who may charge job applicants fees or who may misrepresent employment opportunities in other countries.
  • Transparency and compliance. Throughout the complete legal process.
  • Foreign remittances. An increase in the transferring of money from a foreign worker back to their home country due to an increase in worker stability and compensation.
